- Nintendo Switch Tops SNES With 52 Million Sold To Become 3rd Best Nintendo Home Console
Nintendo gains and breaks it's Switch quarter history this holiday season, moving 10.81 million units to reach a total of 52.48 million sold as of the end of 2019. The big N Switch now clearly tops the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) to become Nintendo’s third best-selling home console of all time behind the Wii and the NES.

As a reminder the SNES was released in 1990 in Japan and 1991 in North America, achieving a total of 49.1 million units sold worldwide. Talking about Nintendo games Pokémon Sword and Shield were a huge hit over the holiday season, moving more than 16 million copies. That’s almost 4 million more than Super Smash Bros. Over here in UK Pokémon Sword sold 273,991 Copies ranking it seventh on the top 10 UK best selling games of 2019.
Nintendo gains ground year on year with new titles hitting the milestone. The Switch Lite launched year dominates a huge impact in the success. Now the the 3DS is a non-factor with just 260,000 consoles sold even in a holiday quarter.
